Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character created by the British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The character first appeared in print in 1887 (in A Study in Scarlet"), and was featured in four novels and 56 short stories. All but four stories are narrated by Holmes's friend and biographer, Dr. Watson.
